United Way of the Ouachitas helps vulnerable residents ‘Beat the Heat’

(HOT SPRINGS—JULY 10, 2024) The United Way of the Ouachitas recently helped distributed 22 box fans from Entergy’s “Beat the Heat” program. The United Way partnered with Entergy to assist them in implementing a series of measures to help vulnerable customers stay cool and safe this summer.

“We were thrilled to be able to help fulfill the mission of the United Way of the Ouachitas by providing fans to the underserved,” said Vanessa Ferrell, president of the board. “With temperatures soaring into the near triple digits, it’s important for us to remember that not everyone has the luxury of reliable air conditioning.”

More than 3,000 electric fans were distributed from Entergy to Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas to help customers beat high temperatures and save on electricity bills throughout the summer.

The United Way of the Ouachitas helped Entergy identify the vulnerable residents in its seven-county area and made sure those households received the fans.

“In addition to partnering with local charitable agencies, the United Way also directly helps the underserved in our community through programs like the fan drive, food boxes, and rent and utilities assistance,” Ferrell said.

The United Way of the Ouachitas fights for the education, financial stability, health and safety of every person in our community. The organization has directly helped the community in several ways including impact grants, rent and utilities assistance, scholarships, food boxes, Stuff the Bus, and tax return assistance.
